Amid escalating tensions near the Ukraine-Russia border, Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister, Iryna Vereshchuk, has introduced a 24-hour hotline to assist residents of Russia’s Kursk region who are looking to evacuate to Ukraine, according to CNN.
The move follows an announcement by Russian authorities mandating the evacuation of the border village of Glushkovo in the Kursk region. The order was issued in response to recent military activities, with Kursk Governor Alexei Smirnov confirming the decision via a message on Telegram. According to Smirnov, the evacuation is a precautionary measure taken after a Ukrainian incursion into the region.
Glushkovo, a village located just 10 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and about 117 kilometers southwest of the city of Kursk, is at the center of these evacuation efforts. Russian law enforcement, the military, and local government officials are coordinating the operation.
At this time, it remains uncertain how many residents will be impacted by the evacuation order.
